Biography
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney
Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney was first elected in 1992 to represent New York’s 14th district, which covers most of the East Side of Manhattan, Roosevelt Island, and western Queens. She was the first woman to chair the Joint Economic Committee and currently serves on that committee, as well as the Committee on Financial Services (where she is the ranking member of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit), the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and the Joint Economic Committee. She was the main proponent of the Credit Card Bill of Rights (CARD Act), signed into law by President Obama in 2009. She co-founded the House 9/11 Commission Caucus and has been an aggressive advocate of federal assistance to help New York City rebuild after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. She also has a long record of legislative success on domestic and international women’s issues.
Congresswoman Maloney will be discussing the fight to preserve funding for the economic census and government statistical agencies.
