To the members of the New York Association for Business Economics (NYABE) and past attendees at our events:
On behalf of the leadership of NYABE, I invite you to join us again this program year for what promises to be an enjoyable and intellectually stimulating series of luncheons. Participation in our chapter of the National Association for Business Economics (NABE) offers opportunities for networking with peers in the NY Metropolitan Area and interacting with thought leaders in the fields of industry, policy, finance, and academia.
As the President of the NYABE for the 2013-14 season, I'd like to share with you a preview of upcoming events and extend a warm welcome for you to attend:
Our schedule kicks off this year on Friday, September 20, with a luncheon address by St. Louis Federal Reserve Bank President James Bullard. A voting member of the Federal Open Market Committee this year, Dr. Bullard has graciously agreed to address our club just two days after the highly-anticipated September 17-18 FOMC meeting. There is still time to sign up for this event.
This autumn, we will hold our annual presentation of the William F. Butler Award. The recipient of the Butler Award this year will be Alan S. Blinder, Professor of Economics and Public Affairs at Princeton University and Former Vice Chairman of the Federal Reserve. Professor Blinder is one of the leading scholars of economic policymaking in general and central banking in particular. Throughout his career he has contributed to the debate on many of the most crucial policy decisions of the day. Dr. Blinder's most recent book, published in 2013, is After the Music Stopped: The Financial Crisis, the Response, and the Work Ahead.
Later this program year, we will welcome Ford Motor Company Chief Economist Ellen Hughes-Cromwick to New York. Dr. Hughes-Cromwick joined Ford Motor Company in 1996 and was promoted to chief economist in 2004. She manages the corporate economics group with major responsibility for the Ford's global economic and automotive industry forecasts used to support business strategy, finance, and planning. Given the important role the auto industry has played in the current business recovery, Dr. Hughes-Cromwick's insights will be especially timely.
We plan to have a full slate of presentations in 2014 and will let you know as these are scheduled.
The NYABE leadership extends its special thanks to Dean Maki for his service as President last year. We also express our gratitude to Catherine Swahn and the Canadian Consulate, and to Samantha Ng and Maurine Haver of Haver Analytics, for providing their time and facilities in support of NYABE.
Please speak about our great schedule with friends and colleagues who might be interested in taking part in our events, and we encourage those of you who are not members to join NYABE by filling out the membership form on our website. Existing members may also renew their membership and pay their dues using this form.
I look forward to seeing you at our luncheons this year and welcome your suggestions for others.
NYABE President, 2013-14
