Welcome to the website of the New York Chapter of the National Association for Business Economics, NABE.

20 August 2007

Dear Colleagues,

Welcome to the 2007-2008 season of the New York Association for Business Economics.

We will begin our year with the presentation of the 2007 Butler Award on September 19th. This year’s recipient will be Richard Berner, Chief U.S. Economist at Morgan Stanley and former President of the National Association for Business Economics.

Following this annual event, we have an impressive line-up of speakers. Currently, scheduled events include:

  • September 19, 2007: Richard Berner, Butler Award
  • October 18, 2007: Douglas Duncan, Chief Economist, Mortgage Bankers Association
  • November 7, 2007: Kevin Warsh, Governor, Federal Reserve Board
  • January 23, 2008: Economic Outlook Panel
  • March 26, 2008: Charles Evans, President, Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago
  • June 2008: Ellen Hughes-Cromwick, Chief Economist, Ford Motor Company and nominee for NABE President
I hope that you will make note of these events and mark your calendars accordingly.

Other sessions are in the works, including a possible repeat of the highly successful panel discussing employment options for young economists. We strongly encourage your suggestions about speakers, topics, and venues.

If you have not done so already, please take a moment to fill out the membership application and send it to the address indicated—note the new multi-year membership option.

Unfortunately, rising costs have led us to make the painful decision to boost membership rates as well as lunch fees. However, we are maintaining a lunch fee structure such that the savings from attending three or more events at the member’s price will more than offset the membership rate.

I look forward to seeing you at our sessions this year!

Sincerely,

Charles Steindel, President, NYABE 2007-08
